The Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) is the European membership body for investor collaboration on climate change. IIGCC has more than 360 members, mainly pension funds and asset managers, across 22 countries, with over €49 trillion in assets under management.
IIGCC’s mission is to support and enable the investment community in driving significant and real progress by 2030 towards a net zero and resilient future. This will be achieved through capital allocation decisions, stewardship and successful engagement with companies, policy makers and fellow investors.
IIGCC works to support and help define the public policies, investment practices and corporate behaviours that address the long-term risks and opportunities associated with climate change.
Why it matters
IIGCC plays an important advocacy role for the investors community through its policy programme
IIGCC engages on finance and climate policy at the global, EU and national level across Europe and develops policy positions to ensure a joined-up investor response on relevant issues.
IIGCC provides a forum for European investors to collaborate and develops tools and resources to deepen understanding of investor practices on climate change and support the implementation of related best practice.
The focus of the programme is based on the recommendations of the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) , covering; governance; strategy, tools and metrics; and disclosure. Since its launch in 2017, the programme has made an important contribution in leading the debate on integrating climate change considerations into investment processes and supporting investors with implementation.
IIGCC has played an important role in the development of alignment methodologies through its Paris Aligned Investment Initiative
The Net Zero Investment Framework, published in March 2021, provides a common set of recommended actions, metrics and methodologies through which investors can maximise their contribution to achieving global net zero global emissions by 2050 or sooner.
